About my Blog
Welcome to Sow to Flow!
This blog is designed to be an intersection of my faith and my passion for science. You will find devotionals, sciences related content, and just my personal thoughts on random things.
Blogs apparently have more parts than I realized. I thought the hard part would be the writing, but setting it up involves a lot more details than I was aware of. Good thing this is more of an experiment ; ) and experiments are about trying and failing (in a controlled environment, possible future post idea with more information.)
The name Sow to Flow came out from a couple different ideas.
The Sow part came from one of my favorite Biblical metaphors. Yeah pretty much the planting concept. Basically the idea that you need to plant the seeds a while before you are able to see the “fruits” of your efforts.
2 Corinthians 9:6 says, “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”
Additionally, While you can pray for God to bless your harvest, He won’t bless it if you don’t plant any seeds. Without planting anything it’s likely God won’t let you starve but you miss out on living in his abundance. We need to take action ourselves ahead of when its needed so that we have prepared for when God comes through. Disclaimer: This is not referring to earning salvation but living out your Christian walk. It’s living out your life in Christ that requires you to put effort into in order to receive his blessings.
The Flow part of the name comes from a few things. The concept first came from me when I watched a video called “You’ve consumed enough. God wants you to start creating” by Connor Woodman, about how the overconsumption (of media) was hindering our growth and how we were made to create stuff. An example used was of the Jordan sea vs the Dead sea. The Jordon is lush and green because the water can flow out into the ocean. The Dead sea on the otherhand is, well dead. Nothing can live there because everything just collects there isn’t a place to outpour. In the same way, we were created to out pour onto others. That’s also where I got the idea to start a blog so it seemed fitting to include the concept of flowing, in the title.
Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Now for a real image of this verse the thing being poured/filled can not be a liquid. Take a cup and fill it with flour or sugar or sand or anything. It looks full, now press it down and shake it. You will find that a lot more is needed for it to become full. That is an example of God’s abundance. Now I think the important distinction about this verse is that it is not supposed to be a one time occurrence. God fills up the cup so we can pour it out to people who need it. He can’t fill a full cup. But He wants us to empty the cup so he can fill it again and again.
So with those in mind the title Sow to Flow just fit as it demonstrates the purpose of this blog- to create something that can outflow into others over time.
